Again, I am a nerd

I've been conducting some research just for fun about books and what makes people want to read certain books more than others based on things other than personal taste. I created a survey that I posted on tumblr about appealing titles. This might help me create effective titles for things I might write in the future.

Gah!

I've been so incredibly busy lately I've been completely neglecting this blog. I'll try to catch up as quickly as I can. I've hardly gotten any time off between class, work, my internship, and my hoop classes. This is probably the busiest and most stressed out I've ever been, but I have to admit it's much better than sitting around drowning in my own boredom.

Politics nerd

After years of pushing and nagging, my dad finally got me to start watching The West Wing. He has every season on DVD so I can sit and watch for hours on end. I find it so interesting and appealing for some reason. I'm planning on majoring in political science when I transfer to a four year university because I really want to study poly sci. I may or may not actually go into politics as a career. I'll use my time studying it in college as a sort of test run. The only thing I'd be worried about is ending up with a desk job if I do go into politics. I'm trying to avoid desk jobs at all costs. My last summer job was in an office and I was miserable. I need to keep busy and moving around or I'll go crazy. But I digress.

Holy Chicken

Look what I got at the El Pollo Loco drive thru today…The guy at the window also told me I should love Jesus too because there is a heaven and hell. Of course I submitted a respectful complaint online, but I really should have asked for my money back and a free smoothie and free chicken and just lots of free food. It was so unprofessional. If there's one thing I hate, it's having some stranger shove his religion down my throat. When I said I'm not religious but I am hungry so where's my food, he told me I should be religious and I should read the bible.

We'll see how this works out

Wells Fargo sent me a credit card, even though I told them I don't trust myself with one so I'll pass.

I activated it anyway...

I'll use it only for emergencies and one or two small purchases every month so I can build up good credit.

Hopefully I don't get carried away...

Especially after finding this shoe store at the mall with the cutest shoes I've ever seen and they're all around $20. I got a pair of boots and a pair of moccasins for $29. I think it was heaven, not a shoe store.

Sodium lauryl sulfate

SLS is an ingredient common in cleaning and hygiene products. It diminishes the taste of sweetness, as observed in the use of toothpaste containing SLS. It's not carcinogenic when it's applied to the skin or consumed. "In the only carcinogenicity study available, SLS was not carcinogenic in Beagle dogs, though the short study duration and limited details provided limit the significance that can be attached to the data."

It can irritate the skin with prolonged exposure and can cause canker sores when used in toothpaste.

The Hunger Site

There's a website, thehungersite.org, that one of my high school teachers introduced me to. All you do is click a button, and food goes to the hungry. Sponsors of the website donate money for every click. You can also buy things like jewelry, clothing, and little trinkets from those sponsors through the website, and a chunk of the proceeds go to the same charities.

There are several charities: hunger, breast cancer, animals, veterans, autism, child health, literacy, and rainforest.

If you click each button once a day, you make a really big difference.

Not to mention, some of the jewelry is really friggin nice.

I'm drinking a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's for the first time.

THIS IS SO GOOD.

WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN DRINKING THIS ALL MY LIFE.

THIS MUST BE WHAT THE GODS DRINK ON MOUNT OLYMPUS.

alkdsjfhlsdkjfa;sdkjfzxcsdfrustration

So on Tumblr there's this thing going around where someone messages you with the names of three or four names of actors or actresses and you put your iTunes on shuffle and with whatever song comes up you have to think of a plot for a movie based on that song or the song's title and create characters for the actors and then you create a poster for the movie and post it with the synopsis and all that.

I saw one post with an amazing story that makes so much sense with the particular actors and I've just been obsessing over this story because it's so simple but has so much potential. I really think if it were to be made into an actual movie it would be definite Oscar material. And I'm very picky when it comes to things like this, having been raised by parents in the film business.

And I just really badly want to write this movie or at least contact the person who came up with the idea and see if they'd want to collaborate on it or SOMETHING I mean this movie HAS to be made.

Here's the synopsis:

EVERYBODY LOVES YOU
STARRING: Billie Piper, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Tennant & Helen Mirren
SONG: Everybody Loves You - Jenn Grant

Following the lives of three people after the one person they all love, Becca (Billie Piper), dies in a shocking accident: her mother, Joan (Helen Mirren), husband, Henry (David Tennant) and Quentin (Benedict Cumberbatch), a co-worker whose tender friendship with Becca was complicated by more intense feelings. Intercut with memories, they deal with their longing, guilt, anger, grief and profound love for one woman while attempting to find their way through a world without her. There would be loads of great close-ups of Billie and lots of sad quiet moments punctuated by a really emotional score (ABEL KORZENIOWSKI, I AM LOOKING AT YOU SIR). Also Benedict Cumberbatch would win, literally, all the awards for his performance as Quentin, a restrained man who falls impossibly in love with his only friend and loses her, and is unable to mourn her loss openly. Sorry, David.

I may or may not be particularly biased because I'm a big fan of all four of those actors, but seriously lsdkjfhlskdfjlaskjfalskdjaslk!!!

Jon Stewart is my king

I watch The Daily Show religiously. Jon Stewart is a master at ripping new ones. The fucking morons running for republican nominee never cease to amaze me and I could just go on hour-long rants about how delusional Santorum is and how ridiculous and hypocritical Gingrich is but I can never really put my thoughts into words. Jon Stewart does that for me. He says EVERYTHING I'm thinking. How any sane person can live without watching The Daily Show is beyond me.

And The Colbert Report is awesome too. I buy Stephen Colbert's Ben & Jerry's ice cream. It's delicious.

That moment when you discover a new song...

This is why I love Pandora. I discovered this song, Fortune Days by The Glitch Mob, and I have had it on repeat non-stop for HOURS. You'd think I'd be tired of it by now, but I'm listening to it right now and I'm basically dancing in my seat. And every other song I try to play just makes me want to go back to Fortune Days and listen to it some more. This is a problem.

WHY IS WRITING SO HARD??

I mean, I feel motivated to write so I grab my laptop, sit down, and open the file with the story I'm working on and then I just sit there staring at the screen thinking WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT I DON'T WANT TO WRITE YOU I DON'T FEELING LIKE WRITING YOU GO AWAY and then I close the window and go on the internet. It's insanely frustrating.

Allons-y!

At work today (I'm a ride operator at Universal Studios) a guest came through our attraction wearing a Doctor Who t-shirt. I'm a HUGE Doctor Who nerd, so I told her I liked her shirt and she replied with "Allons-y!", the Tenth Doctor's catch phrase. It made me happy.

OHMYGOD

So I started watching the BBC miniseries Sherlock last night cause I know some people who are obsessed with it. And I can totally see why. I was up till almost 4am watching it. I could not get enough. It's so brilliantly written and the acting is supreme.

And I've seen pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, and everyone was like HE'S SO HOT OHMYGOD I WANT HIM UNDER MY CHRISTMAS TREE and I was just sitting there like eehhh he's so weird looking I don't get it.

But now, after watching so much of this show, I'm like OH MY GOD YOU'RE SO PRETTY LET ME STARE AT YOU FOR A FEW HOURS OK.

And Sherlock is one of those people who can tell you everything about you with one look at you. The crazy thing is, that's not a fictional trait. I've actually met someone like that. My friend and I were in line at the movies and we started talking to this other guy in line and he told us everything about ourselves. He even mentioned certain things about me that I keep hidden from everyone and that I haven't told a single person about. It was kind of unsettling but really cool at the same time. So I completely understand the other characters' reactions to Sherlock deducing all these things about them. They're always a bit freaked out.

What is wrong with people?

This is just something I found on Tumblr.

"Disclaimer: This is not meant to be funny. This is meant to satirize how carelessly a serious subject has been handled. It is also not a defense for Kanye; what he did was selfish and Taylor will never get that moment back. However, I felt it necessary to raise the issue of race. Age certainly wasn’t the difference, considering both incidents transpired in 2009 and Rihanna is only one year older than Taylor."

CRAP

So, every Wednesday night I go to an aerial hoop class. Love it, it's awesome. But we use this sticky spray on our hands for better grip and that stuff will stay on your skin for ages.
I always wear several rings, which I take off during the class and put back on afterwards.
When I got home, I realized one of my thicker, heavier rings would not come off. I've been sitting here for almost an hour trying to pry this ring off my finger but the residue from the sticky spray has basically welded the thing to my hand. It won't even twist.
I realize I could probably get up and run it under some warm water or something, but that would require leaving my comfy chair and computer, so that's not really an option.
I'll just sit here and twist at it some more I guess....
As for the class, I come home covered in bruises and blisters on a weekly basis, but it's all worth it cause we learn awesome stuff, like this move I learned tonight:

(that's not actually me. i googled the move)
